Petition Filing * Schumer * Coal * Rumi

16 June 2009

”The surging, worldwide 9/11 truth movement has rallied behind NYC CAN
as the most promising opportunity to establish a new investigation.
Donations are pouring in. In a real sense, NYC CAN represents
the 9/11 truth movement for accountability come home.
Having spread its critical spirit and zeal for an honest
rendering of this most heinous act, it has indeed
come marching home—home to NYC,
to the scene of the crime."

3) Poetry of Rumi Spans Across Centuries, Cultures

Editor’s Notes:

This issue begins at a monumental moment. This week 50,000+ petitions will be filed for a referendum vote this November 3rd for a new 9/11 investigation. Senator Charles Schumer is almost on board, but it will be the voice of the people, not politicians, authorizing and conducting a real investigation into what happened that day. The official story-report is bogus. So far President Obama has been in lock-step with prior administrations. But the power is in the hands of NYC voters, like in the hands of the people of Iran, to demand honesty and integrity or exposure of elitist-controlled world government (corrupt) systems. A couple of Bilderberg articles should keep us shaking our heads, wondering where this recent pandemic came from.. Meanwhile heroes are coming out to bat for 9/11 truth. Steve Alten recently sent a note to various truth leaders and organizations:

“I am rewriting The SHELL GAME for the mass market paperback, to be released on September 11, 2009. I am rewriting the story a) to replace the GOP President (McKuin) from the hardback with a Democrat (Obama) and b) because I've learned a lot more about how the world works and treats 9/11 Truth...and I want to expose it all. I am dedicating the book to you. Please send me the names of individuals and/or organizations who deserve recognition. I will honor them as such. Or, if you would rather NOT be mentioned, tell me that as well. Oh yeah, there is also c) I want to exchange the Shell Game's hammer with a sledge hammer. And an $8 paperback can go places and reach far more people than a $28 hardback.”

Pretty cool, and this tidal wave for truth and freedom is arriving for a hopefully balanced 8th anniversary. This first item concludes with information from 911TV.org about a Steven Jones presentation DVD where he announced publication of his team’s discovery and proof of high-tech nanothermite.

Item 2 has more on the challenges before us in converting a personhood corporate doomsday lust scenario, into one with humane principle and perspective. Recently I posted an article called: Transforming Health-care and Criminal Justice on 911blogger. I believe we can help make such visionary projects happen, such as not-for-profit healthcare and prison systems, plus make it efficient with major employment opportunities for the good of society. But, first, we need to help NYC CAN investigate into what really happened on September 11, 2001. United even with only hundreds of contributors, we have already made a strategic strike against universal deception, crimes against humanity and nature. The third item is on Rumi, like taking a breathe of fresh air.

"I am so small.
How can this great love be inside me?
Look at your eyes. They're small.
But they see enormous things."

- - NYC CAN filing Petition 9/11 Investigation Vote!
By Ted Walter

New York City Coalition for Accountability Now
11 June 2009

Finally, after more than a year of collecting signatures, we are ready to file the petition with the City Clerk's Office of New York City! In the week of June 15 we will be well over 50,000 signatures. With that number, we should be comfortably above the 30,000 valid signatures needed for City Council to consider the referendum. As of now our planned date of submission is Wednesday, June 17!

Now, for some important details if you are wondering how the process will work from here:

-City Council could okay the placement of the referendum on the ballot without NYC CAN needing to submit additional signatures.

-In the event that City Council vetoes it, or they take no action within 60 days, NYC CAN will come in with an additional 15,000 signatures to override City Council and guarantee the referendum goes on the ballot. These signatures will be collected over the next two months.

You may notice we don't have as many signatures by this point as we were anticipating. The job of a petitioner is physically strenuous and requires superb communication skills, so it has proven difficult to keep enough people on to build a staff big enough to collect 1,000 signatures per day. However, we ARE collecting 3,000 signatures per week and we are on our way to the 4,000 per week we need to successfully override City Council by the end of the summer. It just takes time. We are building a highly skilled staff who bring in only quality signatures. I want you to know that no money has been wasted - our payroll simply hasn't been as big as it could be, so we still have lots of money in the bank.

But, we need more. We have enough to get us to 60,000 signatures, but we really need another $25,000 to get us to 75,000. I know many of you have given before, so I don't want to ask you to give again unless you are truly able. The more important way you can help our fundraising effort is by talking to everyone you know and asking them to contribute. After filing the petition with the City Clerk next week, we anticipate it will become even easier to raise funds, especially from those who are able to give larger amounts. Please spread the word, it will help! If anyone wants to donate, send them to NYCCAN.org.

Lastly, we are assembling a legal team to lead the way once we have filed the petition. In the event that the City tries to block our effort by legal means, we will need the best people on our side. If you have suggestions or would like to offer your services, please contact us.

And, if you haven't yet watched our 45-second ad, go to: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzC3QI8JenU&fmt=18

- - 9/11 Truth Comes Home
By Frank Morales, June 2009

It’s late spring 2009 in New York City and an unannounced unidentified U.S. government plane streaks across town. Recollecting the horrors of 9/11, the incident scares the he-be-gee-bees out of the citizenry. Some miles to the north, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D/NY), while attending an April 18th “Tour of the Battenkill” annual bicycle race in Cambridge, New York, responds to a question regarding efforts here in New York City to establish a new investigation of 9/11. Lending his qualified support to such an inquiry, he said that he was positively disposed toward a new investigation into the events of 9/11, though his support for such a probe would depend on the form it would take. “I think it’s not a bad idea,” he said. “You know, you’ve got to do it in a good way, but yes, I’d be for it.”

An associate of Schumer, New York State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, also recommended a fresh look at the events of September 11, 2001. Commenting this past May 27th to a young reporter who himself had suffered the loss of a loved one during 9/11, the senator responded to the question of a new investigation by suggesting that “another review, or a fuller hearing” is warranted given the number of unanswered questions put forward by victims families since 9/11. “I think those questions should be answered,” she stated, going on to affirm that, “it’s important that every family member have every question answered.”

- - New DVD - Steven Jones announces NanoThermite

911TV.org announced the availability of a live mix DVD of Steve Jones announcing the publication of his team’s discovery and proof of high-tech nanothermite: “What in the World is High-tech Explosive Material Doing in the Dust Clouds Generated on 9/11/2001?” presented April 30th, 2009 in Sacramento, California.

Both the 1 hour edited version (ready for your public access station or show to your friends) and the complete talk with Q&A are included in this two DVD set which you can get at http://911TV.org. You can also get a hardcopy of this historic publication, in full color.

This is the “Loaded Gun of 9/11,” carefully researched and brilliantly presented. The implications of this new peer reviewed paper are profound.

Nanothermite, a highly engineered energetic nanocomposite, was conceived by 1990, and by 2000 had been weaponized, and manufactured in large quantities in top secret military laboratories. This nano form of thermite does not just burn extremely hot, it explodes!

Steven also updates us on various facets of the quest to repudiate the “official conspiracy theory” about 9/11, and describes current efforts to create a legitimate investigation with real subpoena power.

Your donation makes it possible for 911TV to continue bringing you professional quality video from the 9/11 Truth movement. You can get this two DVD set and the hardcopy at 911TV.org

Pennsylvania Town Fights Big Coal on Mining Rights
by Jon Hurdle
Published June 15, 2009 by Reuters

TAYLORSTOWN, Pennsylvania - A small Pennsylvania town is trying to ban coal mining in a battle being played out across the state as rural communities try to assert control over mining, gas drilling and other businesses.

Blaine Township, a community of 600 about 40 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, hopes to trigger a legal battle that could determine the rights of municipalities throughout the United States to control corporate activity.

Some legal experts say the township is highly unlikely to win that fight. For now the dispute is in federal district court, where major energy companies have sued the township over three ordinances that would ban coal mining and require companies in any business to disclose their activities to local officials.

Penn Ridge Coal LLC, a unit of Alliance Resource Partners, and Allegheny Pittsburgh Coal Co., a unit of Allegheny Energy, say Blaine's laws violate their corporate rights.

The companies say the ordinances would prevent them from mining 10.6 million tons of recoverable coal beneath the township -- enough to supply electricity for 2 million people for a year.

The township has gone further than any of the 120 U.S. municipalities -- most of them in Pennsylvania -- that have passed ordinances to curb corporate activity such as factory farming or spreading sewage sludge, said its lawyer, Tom Linzey of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund.

Of three townships sued by corporations over their ordinances, only Blaine has refused to back down, Linzey said.

Elsewhere in Pennsylvania, towns are resisting efforts by energy companies to extract natural gas from the massive Marcellus Shale formation amid fears that toxic chemicals used in drilling are contaminating ground water and endangering human health.

CREEKS DIVERTED

In Blaine, residents are seeking to prevent coal mining -- which they expect to begin there in 2011 -- because they fear it will ruin their houses and disrupt water supplies, as they say it has in surrounding areas.

They want to block longwall mining, a technique that rips tons of coal from underground without putting anything in its place, causing the land above to sag. The practice, which has been used in coal-rich southwest Pennsylvania since the 1970s, has cracked the walls, roofs and basements of homes and opened fissures in the land, diverting or draining creeks and ponds.

In neighboring Morris Township, Tammy Bowman pointed to a pile of broken wood and concrete -- all that's left of an outbuilding she said was destroyed by shifting ground from mining beneath her 19th century farmhouse.

"It just started to drop and drop," she said. "It got so bad, you couldn't even walk in the door."

One section of her house is held up with mechanical jacks.

Near the village of Graysville, the 62-acre (25-hectare) Duke Lake, once used for fishing and boating, now sits empty after the shifting ground opened a crack in its retaining wall, environmentalists say.

Blaine's three ordinances, passed in 2006, 2007 and 2008, also assert that communities have a right under the U.S. Constitution to control business within their boundaries and that corporations do not have constitutional rights as "persons" to sue municipalities for passing laws that would hurt corporate interests.

"This illegitimate bestowal of civil and political rights upon corporations prevents the administration of laws within Blaine Township and usurps basic human and constitutional rights guaranteed to the people of Blaine Township," says the township's Corporate Rights Ordinance of 2006.

To implement the ordinances, township supervisors are now campaigning for "home rule," a legal code that transfers some powers from state to local control and is commonly used to raise taxes or increase the number of supervisors on a board.

ESTABLISHING HOME RULE

Blaine supervisors want to use home rule to establish what they say is the township's constitutional right to control corporate activity. Voters on May 19 approved a plan to set up a commission to study the proposal and recommend whether to adopt it.

A third lawsuit has been brought by Range Resources, a natural gas company, asking the court to invalidate Blaine's demand that corporations disclose their activities.

Penn Ridge Coal and Allegheny Pittsburgh Coal are asking U.S. Judge Donetta Ambrose of the Western District of Pennsylvania to declare Blaine's ordinances invalid and unenforceable.

In April, Judge Ambrose denied the township's motion to dismiss the case. She is expected to rule late this year.

Linzey predicted the case will eventually go to the U.S. Supreme Court because it pits energy companies who want to exploit one of America's richest coal seams against residents who are determined to resist what they see as rapacious mining.

He conceded the court is unlikely to overturn more than 100 years of established law that gives corporations rights as "persons" under the constitution, but he said the expected outcome would become a springboard for a popular campaign for a constitutional amendment to strip corporations of those rights.

Blaine's supervisors said they want to establish a principle of local self-government that will inspire other communities.

"Who dictates how we are going to live here?" asked Board spokesman Michael Vacca. "Should it not be us?"

- - Russia warns US on missile shield
June 12, 2009

MOSCOW: Russia said on Thursday that the United States must halt its plans to deploy a missile shield in eastern Europe before the two countries can start a full-fledged dialogue on missile defence.

A Russian foreign ministry spokesman, Andrei Nesterenko, also insisted that Moscow would not cooperate in the Pentagon’s plans to site an anti-missile radar in the Czech Republic and interceptor missiles in Poland.

“We cannot agree to cooperate on the creation of sites which in their essence are designed to oppose Russia’s strategic deterrent forces. No one will do something that harms himself,” Nesterenko said.

“Only a US withdrawal from plans to place the so-called third position area of strategic missile defence in Europe can allow full-fledged dialogue to start on issues of cooperation in the reaction to probable missile threats.”

The term ‘third position area’ refers to the US plans in eastern Europe. The previous two areas of the planned multibillion-dollar missile shield are in the US states of Alaska and California. However Nesterenko also voiced hope that a deal could eventually be reached: “We expect that on matters of missile defence, in the end it will be possible to find a common denominator and reach a mutually agreeable decision.”

Nesterenko’s comments on Thursday were in response to Russian media reports that the two countries had made progress on the issue and that the United States might even situate elements of its missile shield in Russia.

The reports, which appeared in multiple Russian newspapers, were based on testimony by US Defence Secretary Robert Gates this week before US senators. But a spokesperson for Gates told AFP that the Pentagon chief’s comments had been misconstrued and that the reported plans to put US missile-shield facilities in Russia were a misinterpretation.

Moscow has reacted angrily to the US missile defence plans, saying they are a threat to Russian security, although Washington says they are not directed against Russia and are meant to protect against ‘rogue states’ like Iran.

Former US president George W Bush strongly backed the missile shield, but the new administration of President Barack Obama has slowed down implementation of the project

BBC NEWS
'Boom and bust' of deforestation
By Richard Black
Environment correspondent, BBC News

Cutting down Amazon forest for cattle and soy does not bring long-term economic progress, researchers say.

A study of 286 Amazon municipalities found that deforestation brought quick benefits that were soon reversed.

Writing in the journal Science, the researchers say the deforestation cycle helps neither people nor nature.

They suggest that mechanisms to reward people in poorer countries for conserving rainforest could change this "lose-lose-lose" situation.

3) Poetry of Rumi Spans Across Centuries, Cultures
PBS TV Newshour with Jim Lehrer
Originally aired on 04 June 2009

Afghan-born 13th century Sufi mystic poet Jalaluddin Rumi is the national poet of Afghanistan, as well
as a much-loved poet in America. Jeffrey Brown reports on what's behind the popularity of Rumi's poems.

audio Download video Streaming
Video

JIM LEHRER: And finally tonight, a poet who speaks across centuries. Jeffrey Brown narrates our report by independent producer David Grubin.

JEFFREY BROWN: With more and more American soldiers arriving in Afghanistan each day coming face to face with a culture and a people they know little about, it may come as a surprise that one of the best loved poets in America is the national poet of Afghanistan, a 13th century Sufi mystic named Jalaluddin Rumi.

COLEMAN BARKS, poet and translator: "All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea."

JIM LEHRER: The poet Coleman Barks has been translating Rumi for more than 36 years. In a 1994 PBS documentary, he read to music by the Paul Winter Consort.

COLEMAN BARKS: "The day is coming"...

JIM LEHRER: Rumi, born in northern Afghanistan, wrote thousands and thousands of ecstatic poems traditionally spoken with music. Although most Afghans are illiterate, they can recite Rumi by heart.

COLEMAN BARKS: There is a part of the Afghani culture, a huge part, that is way beyond the Taliban. Rumi's read on the radio daily. He's used in their conversation. He's like the Shakespeare of the Middle East, only he has mystical awareness. By that, I mean that his poetry is aware of the deep interconnectedness of all life and of all peoples and of all religions.

"I am so small. How can this great love be inside me? Look at your eyes. They're small. But they see enormous things."

He lived in the 13th century, and there was sectarian violence. The crusades were raking across Anatolia. But he said, "It doesn't matter what religion you are." He says, "I go into a synagogue, I go into the Christian church, and I go into the Muslim mosque, and I see one altar."

The kingdom of God is within you. That's what Jesus says in Luke 17:12. And that's what Rumi is saying, that the deep sense of the divine mystery is in each other.

"I, you, he, she, we, I, you, he, she, we. In the garden of mystic lovers, these are not true distinctions."

Rumi strikes a chord with Americans

JEFFREY BROWN: Something in Rumi has clearly struck a chord with many Americans. Coleman Barks' translations have sold well over a million copies. And the poems, written some eight centuries ago, are today regularly read at weddings and funerals.

COLEMAN BARKS: What the Afghans love about the poetry of Rumi, and that the American public, too, loves, is that all of those deep human emotions, all these religions, all this singing is one song.

Both cultures love the same poet. The Afghans love it that Rumi is so popular in the United States. They're proud of us for that, and we're proud to be connected with them in that way.

"Walk to the well. Turn as the Earth and the Moon turn, circling what they love. Whatever circles comes from the center."

This is a poem called "The Tent."

"Outside: the freezing desert night. This other night inside grows warm, kindling. Let the landscape be covered with thorny crust. We have a soft garden in here. The continents blasted, cities and little towns, everything become a scorched, blackened ball. The news we hear is full of grief for that future, but the real news inside here is, there's no news at all."
