“We have grasped the mystery of the atom
and rejected the Sermon on the Mount.
Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants.
We know more about war than we know about peace,
more about killing that we know about living.”

Editor’s Notes:

Appreciation Introspection Respect (AIR) are three qualities that I seek to incorporate within myself and for all relationships, and endeavors. It is a good thing, too, since the very first item in this issue could make you want to go numb; but it is too serious to ignore, possible intentions of NATO to incorporate a nuclear preemptive directive. The complicity of the media and Congress to maintain the illusion of democracy is described in the next article by Daniel Ellsberg on the Sibel Edmonds case. Make sure, too, in this first item you watch the Able Danger Movie Trailer. The movie is based on “Able Danger,” a CIA covert operation with links to Al-Qaeda. One member of Congress, Curt Weldon, who was investigating this program lost in his next election bid. Politics is as corrupt as ever, but for sure, an Obama administration would not have the capacity to be as corrupt as another Clinton administration. But besides voting, another action you should consider is purchasing The Shell Game, a novel that could help many peer into the real threat of 9/11 and a possible attack on Iran. Also, for a possible 9/11 investigation in 2009, one could support NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative for a legitimate investigation into what happened on September 11, 2001.

Item 2 is more on the financial crisis, and World Reports ; but also we also included an excellent background article from January 2007, called: Following the money backwards leads to President Reagan, Russian rubles and Ambassador Leo Wanta by Don Nicoloff. Item 3 pokes our nose into the highly volatile situation regarding Palestine and Israel. FN supports the statement: GAZA: An Israeli Call for Urgent Action. The governments of the US and Israel have chosen policies that increase terrorism, and turning one’s back to “Hear O Israel, the Lord Our God, the Lord is One.” When will the inhumanity and insanity end? AIR – anyone?

For a change, item four covers some good news in the case of Richard Sitcha. He is free from prison and with his family in Cameroon. Following that is my latest draft on my letter on behalf of Jehan Abdur-Raheem. The last item in this issue is breaking news on a military satellite out of control, which is going to crash on Earth this or next month, somewhere. One must always be concerned about radiation and other pollution from the military. The final article is on the Army's privatization of radioactive Uranium weapons.

We have more possibilities available

Pre-Emptive Nuclear Strike a Key Option, NATO Told
By Ian Traynor

22/01/08 "The Guardian" --- - The west must be ready to resort to a pre-emptive nuclear attack to try to halt the “imminent” spread of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, according to a radical manifesto for a new Nato by five of the west’s most senior military officers and strategists.

Calling for root-and-branch reform of Nato and a new pact drawing the US, Nato and the European Union together in a “grand strategy” to tackle the challenges of an increasingly brutal world, the former armed forces chiefs from the US, Britain, Germany, France and the Netherlands insist that a “first strike” nuclear option remains an “indispensable instrument” since there is “simply no realistic prospect of a nuclear-free world”.

The manifesto has been written following discussions with active commanders and policymakers, many of whom are unable or unwilling to publicly air their views. It has been presented to the Pentagon in Washington and to Nato’s secretary general, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, over the past 10 days. The proposals are likely to be discussed at a Nato summit in Bucharest in April.

“The risk of further [nuclear] proliferation is imminent and, with it, the danger that nuclear war fighting, albeit limited in scope, might become possible,” the authors argued in the 150-page blueprint for urgent reform of western military strategy and structures. “The first use of nuclear weapons must remain in the quiver of escalation as the ultimate instrument to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction.”

The authors - General John Shalikashvili, the former chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff and Nato’s ex-supreme commander in Europe, General Klaus Naumann, Germany’s former top soldier and ex-chairman of Nato’s military committee, General Henk van den Breemen, a former Dutch chief of staff, Admiral Jacques Lanxade, a former French chief of staff, and Lord Inge, field marshal and ex-chief of the general staff and the defence staff in the UK - paint an alarming picture of the threats and challenges confronting the west in the post-9/11 world and deliver a withering verdict on the ability to cope.

The five commanders argue that the west’s values and way of life are under threat, but the west is struggling to summon the will to defend them. The key threats are:

· Political fanaticism and religious fundamentalism.

· The “dark side” of globalisation, meaning international terrorism, organised crime and the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

· Climate change and energy security, entailing a contest for resources and potential “environmental” migration on a mass scale.

· The weakening of the nation state as well as of organisations such as the UN, Nato and the EU.

To prevail, the generals call for an overhaul of Nato decision-taking methods, a new “directorate” of US, European and Nato leaders to respond rapidly to crises, and an end to EU “obstruction” of and rivalry with Nato. Among the most radical changes demanded are:

· A shift from consensus decision-taking in Nato bodies to majority voting, meaning faster action through an end to national vetoes.

· The abolition of national caveats in Nato operations of the kind that plague the Afghan campaign.

· No role in decision-taking on Nato operations for alliance members who are not taking part in the operations.

· The use of force without UN security council authorisation when “immediate action is needed to protect large numbers of human beings”.

In the wake of the latest row over military performance in Afghanistan, touched off when the US defence secretary, Robert Gates, said some allies could not conduct counter-insurgency, the five senior figures at the heart of the western military establishment also declare that Nato’s future is on the line in Helmand province.

“Nato’s credibility is at stake in Afghanistan,” said Van den Breemen.

“Nato is at a juncture and runs the risk of failure,” according to the blueprint.

Naumann delivered a blistering attack on his own country’s performance in Afghanistan. “The time has come for Germany to decide if it wants to be a reliable partner.” By insisting on “special rules” for its forces in Afghanistan, the Merkel government in Berlin was contributing to “the dissolution of Nato”.

Ron Asmus, head of the German Marshall Fund thinktank in Brussels and a former senior US state department official, described the manifesto as “a wake-up call”. “This report means that the core of the Nato establishment is saying we’re in trouble, that the west is adrift and not facing up to the challenges.”

Naumann conceded that the plan’s retention of the nuclear first strike option was “controversial” even among the five authors. Inge argued that “to tie our hands on first use or no first use removes a huge plank of deterrence”.

Reserving the right to initiate nuclear attack was a central element of the west’s cold war strategy in defeating the Soviet Union. Critics argue that what was a productive instrument to face down a nuclear superpower is no longer appropriate.

Robert Cooper, an influential shaper of European foreign and security policy in Brussels, said he was “puzzled”.

“Maybe we are going to use nuclear weapons before anyone else, but I’d be wary of saying it out loud.”

Another senior EU official said Nato needed to “rethink its nuclear posture because the nuclear non-proliferation regime is under enormous pressure”.

Naumann suggested the threat of nuclear attack was a counsel of desperation. “Proliferation is spreading and we have not too many options to stop it. We don’t know how to deal with this.”

Nato needed to show “there is a big stick that we might have to use if there is no other option”, he said.

The Authors:

John Shalikashvili

The US’s top soldier under Bill Clinton and former Nato commander in Europe, Shalikashvili was born in Warsaw of Georgian parents and emigrated to the US at the height of Stalinism in 1952. He became the first immigrant to the US to rise to become a four-star general. He commanded Operation Provide Comfort in northern Iraq at the end of the first Gulf war, then became Saceur, Nato’s supreme allied commander in Europe, before Clinton appointed him chairman of the joint chiefs in 1993, a position he held until his retirement in 1997.

Klaus Naumann

Viewed as one of Germany’s and Nato’s top military strategists in the 90s, Naumann served as his country’s armed forces commander from 1991 to 1996 when he became chairman of Nato’s military committee. On his watch, Germany overcame its post-WWII taboo about combat operations, with the Luftwaffe taking to the skies for the first time since 1945 in the Nato air campaign against Serbia.

Lord Inge

Field Marshal Peter Inge is one of Britain’s top officers, serving as chief of the general staff in 1992-94, then chief of the defence staff in 1994-97. He also served on the Butler inquiry into Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction and British intelligence.

Henk van den Breemen

An accomplished organist who has played at Westminster Abbey, Van den Breemen is the former Dutch chief of staff.

Jacques Lanxade

A French admiral and former navy chief who was also chief of the French defence staff.

- - The American Media’s Failure to Report on the Sibel Edmonds Case
by Daniel Ellsberg
- Published January 21, 2008 by The Brad Blog

Covering Up the Coverage - The American Media’s
Complicit Failure to Investigate and Report on the
Sibel Edmonds Case
by Daniel Ellsberg

For the second time in two weeks, the entire U.S. press has let itself be scooped by Rupert Murdoch’s London Sunday Times on a dynamite story of criminal activities by corrupt U.S. officials promoting nuclear proliferation. But there is a worse journalistic sin than being scooped, and that is participating in a cover-up of information that demands urgent attention from the public, the U.S. Congress and the courts.

For the last two weeks — one could say, for years — the major American media have been guilty of ignoring entirely the allegations of the courageous and highly credible source Sibel Edmonds, quoted in the London Times on January 6, 2008 in a front-page story that was front-page news in much of the rest of the world but was not reported in a single American newspaper or network. It is up to readers to demand that this culpable silent treatment end.

Just as important, there must be pressure by the public on Congressional committee chairpersons, in particular Representative Henry Waxman and Senator Patrick Leahy. Both have been sitting for years on classified, sworn testimony by Edmonds — as she revealed in the Times’ new story on Sunday — along with documentation, in their possession, confirming parts of her account. Pressure must be brought for them to hold public hearings to investigate her accusations of widespread criminal activities, over several administrations, that endanger national security. They should call for open testimony under oath by Edmonds — as she has urged for five years — and by other FBI officials she has named to them, as cited anonymously in the first Times’ story.

And this is the time for those who have so far creditably leaked to the Times of London to come forward, accepting personal risks, to offer their testimony — and new documents — both to the Congress and to the American press. I would say to them: Don’t do what I did and waste months of precious time trying to get Congressional committees to act as they should in the absence of journalistic pressure. Do your best to inform the American public directly, first, through the major American media.

But perhaps today the alternative media and the international press are a necessary precursor even to that. It shouldn’t be true, but if it is, it’s a measure of how far the New York Times and Washington Post have fallen from their responsibilities to the public, to their profession and to American democracy, since I gave them the Pentagon Papers in 1971. They printed them then. Would they today?

It’s impossible to believe that they — or Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal — could not have acquired documents and testimony that Murdoch’s London paper reports on today. Now the challenge to them is to end their silence on that reporting and do their job.

Otherwise, like the now-Democratic-controlled committees, they are complicit in cover-up. That’s not what these institutions should be doing. It’s not that “the cover-up is always worse than the crime”: that favorite media mantra is itself a cover story. The criminal cover-up by the FBI revealed by Edmonds and the Times’ documents is, as often the case, to conceal extremely serious crimes endangering our security, and to protect the official perpetrators. But if “freedom of the press is mainly for the people who own presses,” it is time for those owners to stop using that freedom to help conceal official wrongdoing. And the people who own computers should be using them to light a fire under the owners of presses and television networks.

In support of the official cover-up, various American journalists in the last weeks have reportedly received calls from “intelligence sources” hinting that “what Sibel Edmonds stumbled onto” is not a rogue operation by American officials and Congressmen working to their own advantage — as believed by Edmonds and some other former or active FBI officials — but a sensitive covert operation authorized at high levels. If there is any truth to that, we clearly have another prize candidate — giving us, as blowback, the Pakistani Bomb and nuclear sales — in the category of “worst covert operation in U.S. history,” rivaling such contenders as the Bay of Pigs, Iran-Contra, and the secret CIA torture camps abroad.

In the first two of those, the American press gullibly responded to official warnings of “sensitivity” and sat on information they should have reported (as did the New York Times, for a year, on the illegal NSA surveillance program). If the Washington Post had heeded such warnings and demands with respect to the covert torture camps, they would have missed a well-earned Pulitzer Prize and the camps would still be torturing.

Many, if not most, covert operations deserve to be disclosed by a free press. They are often covert not only because they are illegal but because they are wildly ill-conceived and reckless. “Sensitive” and “covert” are often synonyms for “half-assed” or “idiotic,” as well as for “criminal,” as the pattern of activities revealed by Edmonds would appear to be if it were truly presidentially authorized. These activities persist, covertly, to the point of national disaster because the press neglects what our First Amendment was precisely intended to protect and encourage it to do: expose wrongdoing by officials.

Daniel Ellsberg is a former American military analyst who sparked a national uproar in 1971 when he released the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret Pentagon study of government decision-making during the Vietnam War, to The New York Times and other newspapers.

[EXCERPT]

After five years of thwarted legal challenges and fruitless attempts to launch a congressional investigation, Sibel Edmonds is telling her story, though her defiance could land her in jail. After reading its November piece about Louai al-Sakka, an al-Qaeda terrorist who trained 9/11 hijackers in Turkey, Edmonds approached the Sunday Times of London. On Jan. 6, the Times, a Murdoch-owned paper that does not normally encourage exposés damaging to the Bush administration, featured a long article. The news quickly spread around the world, with follow-ups appearing in Israel, Europe, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Japan—but not in the United States.

- - Has America grown numb to war?
BY TYLER BOUDREAU

For all that I, as a Marine, saw and did on the battlefield, I doubt I'll ever tire of talking about the war in Iraq. I'll be boring people, no doubt, even on my deathbed with anecdotes and opinions about what hopefully then will be a war long-past.

Maybe I'll even have them scratch a few last thoughts on the matter into my gravestone so that when future generations read my epitaph they will know that Tyler Boudreau could never stop thinking about his days in war.

There was a time when I was in robust company. But I fear that time is waning and that so many people are growing weary of the conversation. "There is a war on!" I say desperately to roil the calm, and then I catch that yawn in people's eyes and the exhaustion in their jowls, as though they'd fallen into some sort of narcoleptic stupor, utterly satiated with the pallid rhetoric slung from both sides of the debate.

When I recount for them now the deaths and the blood and the gore, their eyes barely shift from their glazed visages. The most macabre of tales no longer raises a pulse. I fear that by the time my own memoir is published there will simply be no more market for the mourners of Iraq.

Truncated, for the complete article, see: www.gazettenet.com/talkback/comment/comments.cfm?id=77417

Tyler Boudreau was stationed in Iraq from March to November 2004, and was discharged from the Marine Corps in November 2005. He can be contacted through his blog "Deeper Than War". His book, "Packing Inferno," will be released this fall.

What Happened on 9-11?
Scott Ritter, Former U.N. Weapons Inspector, Says
“Absolute Requirement to Know What Happened on 9-11”
By Jason Charles
TruthAlliance.net
Jan. 21, 2008

[EXCERPT]

In his usual form, former U.N. weapons inspector Scott Ritter told a packed crowd at the Oriental Theater in Denver to stop whining about corporate media and become their own intelligence operatives. We the people have the same resources and tools that intelligence networks rely heavily on; it’s called “Google” he said.

In his hilarious analogy, the American people like baby birds wait each night in front of their television sets for the corporate news bird to land in their living room and lovingly puke down our necks with that day’s regurgitated news. Suggesting that as our own intelligence operatives we can’t allow CNN, FOX, NBC, and ABC to edit and cherry pick information, but ask questions and find the answers ourselves.

“Did Bush and Cheney Plan the demise of the building?
How important is this to establishing justice?
Mr. Ritter seems to think it is an “absolute requirement to know what happened on 9-11.”

- - Can a novel help educate the masses?
THE SHELL GAME

A Review By Carolyn Baker

Change is avalanching upon our heads, and most people are grotesquely unprepared to cope with it.
--Alvin Toffler

When Steve Alten sent me a review copy of The Shell Game, despite glowing reviews of it from people I know and respect, I sighed and squirmed in my chair. Anyone who knows me well knows that I don't DO fiction-or to be more specific, I resist it because of the difficulty I usually experience with trying to organize the characters of a novel in my mind. Nevertheless, I emailed Steve and assured him that I would review the book and began skimming it with dread. Peeking into the pages with immense caution and aloofness, something completely astounding happened: I found myself inexplicably riveted. That someone like me could not put the book down speaks volumes, and no one was more surprised than I was.

As reviewer Bill Douglas points out, Shell Game opens from the perspective of the neocons "THEN, the novel proceeds to disassemble that ‘reality' taking the reader on a journey that shows the ugly underbelly of false flag terrorism, diminishing civil and human rights, and the lies that led into past wars, and portend to lead us all into future wars."

How Faith Can Be Illuminating or Blinding

According to David Ray Griffin, "People of faith" are often accused of allowing their faith to override evidence. With regard to 9/11, the greatest obstacle to seeing the truth---that 9/11 was an inside job---is not the lack of evidence but what can be called "nationalist faith"---the belief that America is the "exceptional nation," whose leaders never deliberately do anything truly evil, at least to their own citizens

Going Bankrupt
Why the Debt Crisis Is Now the Greatest Threat to the American Republic
By Chalmers Johnson

The military adventurers of the Bush administration have much in common with the corporate leaders of the defunct energy company Enron. Both groups of men thought that they were the "smartest guys in the room," the title of Alex Gibney's prize-winning film on what went wrong at Enron. The neoconservatives in the White House and the Pentagon outsmarted themselves. They failed even to address the problem of how to finance their schemes of imperialist wars and global domination.

As a result, going into 2008, the United States finds itself in the anomalous position of being unable to pay for its own elevated living standards or its wasteful, overly large military establishment. Its government no longer even attempts to reduce the ruinous expenses of maintaining huge standing armies, replacing the equipment that seven years of wars have destroyed or worn out, or preparing for a war in outer space against unknown adversaries. Instead, the Bush administration puts off these costs for future generations to pay -- or repudiate. This utter fiscal irresponsibility has been disguised through many manipulative financial schemes (such as causing poorer countries to lend us unprecedented sums of money), but the time of reckoning is fast approaching.

The worst market crisis in 60 years
By George Soros January 22, 2008

Billionaire investor George Soros said the world was facing the worst financial crisis since World War Two and the United States was threatened with recession, according to an interview with the Austrian daily Standard.

"The situation is much more serious than any other financial crisis since the end of World War Two," Soros was quoted as saying.

He said over the past few years politics had been guided by some basic misunderstandings stemming from something which he called "market fundamentalism" - the belief financial markets tended to act as a balance.

"This is the wrong idea," he said.

"We really do have a serious financial crisis now."

Asked whether he thought the United States was headed for a recession, he said: "Yes, this is a threat in the United States".

He added he was surprised how little understanding there had been on how recession was also a threat to Europe.

European shares fell nearly 6 per cent on Monday, their biggest one-day slide since the September 11 attacks of 2001, as fears of a US recession and more write downs in the financial sector sparked a broad-based selloff.

Following the money backwards leads to President Reagan, Russian rubles and Ambassador Leo Wanta

Ambassador Leo Wanta is the lawful "principle" and "trustor" of funds stashed in accounts all over the world.

Editor’s note: The story of how Ambassador Leo Wanta was commissioned by President Reagan to make $trillions for the American people in shrewd (but legal) currency trading that concentrated on buying Russian rubles at a discount to destabilize the Soviet economy surfaced in 1992. The Wanta story was recently revived on the Investigative Journal by Greg Syzmanski through interviews with Ambassador Wanta broadcast on the Republic Broadcast Network. As it turns out, British financial news publisher Christopher Story has published the documents in evidence giving credence to what is arguably the most important story in recent memory. As you will see, several poorly-reported incidents during the 90s helped to bury the Wanta story as a tall-tale. As events unfold and independent researchers put the pieces together, Ambassador Wanta is emerging as a real man whose activities produced $trillions that are stashed away in real banks and invested in real properties. If this story is true—and the evidence is becoming unavoidably compelling—then it will not be long before all the world will know.

By Don Nicoloff

While many Americans argue about a variety of current scandals in federal, state, and local governments throughout the United States, the media has remained suspiciously silent about them. Contrary to the myriad of facts and evidence of government complicity or wrongdoing that independent investigators have been steadily uncovering in their analyses of the "attacks" on the World Trade Center; the "bombing" of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City; the sieges at Waco and Ruby Ridge; the facts behind the shoot-out at the Rayburn Senate Office Building/parking garage in May, 2006; the virtual security collapse and mass invasion by illegal aliens along U.S. Borders; the spraying of our skies, crops, and water resources with chemtrails; the numerous bank, investment, securities frauds and sex scandals among members of the Congress, the Senate and the Roman Catholic Church; the secret formation of a "North American Union" and its NAFTA "Super Highway"; the ill-conceived "War on Terror" and the phony "War on Drugs," the mainstream media has been complicit in conspiracies of silence.

In fact, the media has aided and abetted our "elected" lawbreakers in these coverups by endlessly spewing the "talking points" designed to create dissent, confusion and to ridicule or discredit those who demonstrate courage while exposing these despicable and treasonous acts.

Never before in our history has the erosion of Constitutional rights and civil liberties been occurring at such an accelerated pace.

3) GAZA – An Israeli Call for Urgent Action

- - Gandhi's Grandson Quits Peace Center

GAZA : AN ISRAELI CALL FOR URGENT ACTION

We, the Israeli organizations signed below, deplore the decision by the Israeli government to cut off vital supplies of electricity and fuel (and therefore water, since the pumps cannot work), as well as essential foodstuffs, medicines and other humanitarian supplies to the civilian population of Gaza. Such an action constitutes a clear and unequivocal crime against humanity.

Prof. John Dugard, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, called the Israeli government's actions "serious war crimes" for which its political and military officials should be prosecuted and punished. The killing of more than 40 civilians this past week violates, he said, " the strict prohibition on collective punishment contained in the Fourth Geneva Convention.

It also violates one of the basic principles of international humanitarian law that military action must distinguish between military targets and civilian targets." Indeed, the very legal framework invoked by the Israeli government to carry out this illegal and immoral act declaring Gaza a "hostile entity" within a "conflict short of war" has absolutely no standing in international law.

We call on the Secretary General of the UN, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, to lead the Security Council to a decisive decision to end the siege on Gaza when it meets in emergency session on Wednesday.

We call on the governments of the world, and in particular the American government and the European Parliament, to censure Israel's actions and, in light of recent attempts to revive the diplomatic process, to end all attacks on civilians, including the continuing
demolition of Palestinian homes at an alarming rate.

We call upon the Jews of the world in whose name the Israeli government purports to speak, and upon their rabbis and communal leaders in particular, to speak out unequivocally against this offense to the very moral core of Jewish values.

And we call upon the peoples of the world to let their officials and leaders know of their repudiation of this cruel, illegal and immoral act an act that stands out in its cruelty even in an already oppressive Israeli Occupation.

We condemns attacks on all civilians, and we acknowledge the suffering of the residents of Sderot. Still, those attacks do not justify the massive disproportionality of Israeli sanctions over a million and half civilians of Gaza, in particular in light of Israel's oppressive 40 year occupation. Such violations of international law by a government are especially egregious and must be denounced and punished if the very system of human rights and international law is to be preserved.

The Israeli government's decision to punish Gaza 's civilian population, with all the human suffering that entails, constitutes State Terrorism against innocent people. Only when Israeli policy-makers are held accountable for their actions and international law
upheld will a just peace be possible in the Middle East.

- - Gandhi's Grandson Quits Peace Center

Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, answers questions during a news conference prior ...
By BEN DOBBIN, AP
Sat Jan 26, 4:12 AM EST

Arun Gandhi said he learned at his grandfather's feet that the world's major conflicts can only be tackled by first solving the little problems.

"It's the little problems that accumulate and become big problems," the fifth grandson of revered pacifist Mahatma Gandhi said when he moved his M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence to the University of Rochester last June.

Now, intemperate remarks about Israel and Jews being "the biggest players" in a global culture of violence have gotten Gandhi removed as president of the peace center he launched in 1991.

"My intention was to generate a healthy discussion on the proliferation of violence," Gandhi said Friday, a day after the institute's board accepted his resignation. "Instead, unintentionally, my words have resulted in pain, anger, confusion and embarrassment. I deeply regret these consequences."

The institute offers courses, workshops and seminars on nonviolence and will "continue its mission" at the University of Rochester, which provides office space and staff support, said the school's president, Joel Seligman.

Gandhi co-founded the center with his wife, Sunanda, at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., and relocated it to the Rochester campus a few months after her death last February.

Gandhi's resignation "was appropriate" because his remarks "did not reflect the core values" of either the university or the institute, Seligman said in a statement. But a forum will be held later this year to allow Gandhi to discuss issues he raised with Jewish community leaders and other speakers, Seligman said.

"I think it's shameful that a peace institute would be headed up by a bigot," said Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, an international group that opposes anti-Semitism. "One would hope that the grandson of such an illustrious human being would be more sensitive to Jewish history."

Gandhi was on a panel of scholars, writers and clergy who discuss a new topic weekly on the Washington Post's "On Faith" page and his comments, posted Jan. 7, drew a torrent of criticism, much of it unfavorable.

Gandhi wrote that Jewish identity "has been locked into the holocaust experience — a German burden that the Jews have not been able to shed. It is a very good example of (how) a community can overplay a historic experience to the point that it begins to repulse friends.

"The holocaust was the result of the warped mind of an individual who was able to influence his followers into doing something dreadful. ... The world did feel sorry for the episode but when an individual or a nation refuses to forgive and move on, the regret turns into anger."

Describing Israel as "a nation that believes its survival can only be ensured by weapons and bombs," Gandhi asked whether it would "not be better to befriend those who hate you?"

"Apparently, in the modern world so determined to live by the bomb, this is an alien concept," he wrote. "You don't befriend anyone, you dominate them. We have created a culture of violence (Israel and the Jews are the biggest players) and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity."

Gandhi later apologized "for my poorly worded post," saying he shouldn't have implied that Israeli government policies reflected the views of all Jewish people.

4) Sitcha Now In Cameroon

- - Draft Letter On Behalf of Jehan Abdur-Raheem

Richard Sitcha Now In Cameroon

The following is hopeful news regarding our friend Richard Sitcha, who is with and supported by friends, and family in Cameroon!

Dear friends of Richard Sitcha,

We are delighted and grateful to be able to tell you that Richard has been cleared through security at the airport in Yaounde (capitol of Cameroon) into the safe hands of a family member/friend. He is now safe and sound and out of the capitol. We are grateful for the caring community in his homeland who is assisting him on his journey to freedom.

We are very hopeful about his future.
We expect to be kept informed, and to pass along the news to you.

The funds that have been collected for his legal defense and/or bond will be turned over to Richard for his resettlement (except for those donors who need to have their bond-donation returned to them). We have demanded a refund from the attorney who violated his contract to take the appeal to the Second Circuit and await his response; those funds belong also to Richard, so we will continue to pursue this matter.

For now, we invite you to continue to hold Richard and his supporters in prayer...and to rejoice with us!

P.O. Box 500; Elmira Correctional Facility
Elmira, NY 14902-0500

Dear Commissioner Fischer:

I believe I have strong evidence indicating that that the extensive solitary confinement of Jehan Abdur-Raheem at Elmira Correctional Facility is neither fair or just. The evidence I have is from letters from Jehan Abdur-Raheem over the past years, communicating nonviolence, friendship, in attitude, thoughts, and actions. On record Raheem has never been charged with any rioting, escapes, staff assaults, drugs or weapons violations. Why should he be in lock down for years from non-disclosed sources? I hope you will consider replying to let me know if interested in reviewing these letters.

I am skeptical when it comes to non-disclosed sources with vague accusations at a time when the US government has been exposed for misleading our country into a preemptive war; not only regarding weapons of mass destruction, but in influencing the public into believing that Iraq had something to do with the events of September 11, 2001.

Jehan happens to worship as a Muslim; I have friends of most all religions, and I find value in most all religions, too. The value in each religion is in what unites us. What it really comes down to is that we each are human, foremost. I was raised in Brooklyn, NY, in the Jewish religion. Jehan and I through correspondence have formed a friendship. Jehan’s letters reveal mistreatment at Elmira Correctional Facility. His actions and thoughts have been nonviolent and sociable for at least as long as I have communicated with him. The letters he had written to me are worth considering before another day of isolating him from ‘normal’ prison activity, and should be considered, too, for his parole at his next Hearing.

Thank you for any consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Mark

Satellite could plummet to Earth
BBC NEWS

A "large" US spy satellite has gone out of control and is expected to crash to Earth some time in late February or March, government sources say.

Officials speaking on condition of anonymity said the satellite had lost power and propulsion, and could contain hazardous materials.

The White House said it was monitoring the situation.

A spokesman said "numerous" satellites had come out of orbit and fallen back to Earth harmlessly over the years.

"We are looking at potential options to mitigate any possible damage this satellite may cause," said Gordon Johndroe, who speaks for the US National Security Council.

Questioned by The Associated Press, he would not be drawn on whether the US would try to destroy the satellite, perhaps with a missile.

An unnamed official quoted by AP s aid the US government was keeping lawmakers and other countries abreast of the situation.

Fuel hazard

The satellite contains the rocket fuel hydrazine, a government official told AP on condition of anonymity.

A colourless liquid with an ammonia-like odour, the fuel is a toxic chemical and can cause harm to anyone who comes in contact with it.

John Pike, director of the defence research group GlobalSecurity.org, said an uncontrolled re-entry could risk exposure of US secrets.

Spy satellites typically are disposed of through a controlled re-entry into the ocean so that no one else can access the spacecraft, he was quoted by AP as saying.

The military expert believes that shooting the satellite down would create debris that would then re-enter the atmosphere and burn up or hit the ground.

In his estimate, the satellite weighs about 20,000 pounds (9,072kg) and is the size of a small bus.

It is possible, he adds, that this one died as long as a year ago and is just now getting ready to re-enter the atmosphere.

Another expert, Jeffrey Richelson of the National Security Archive, said the satellite is probably a photo reconnaissance satellite.

Into the ocean

AP notes that the largest uncontrolled re-entry by a US space agency (Nasa) craft was Skylab.

The 78-tonne abandoned space station fell from orbit in 1979.

Its debris dropped harmlessly into the Indian Ocean and across a remote section of western Australia, the US news agency says.

In 2002, officials believe debris from a 7,000-pound (3,175-kg) science satellite hit the Earth's atmosphere.

It rained down over the Gulf, a few thousand miles from where they first predicted it would crash.

Saving Money, Making A Killing

Judging by the three articles below, it sure looks like the Army's privatization of radioactive Uranium weapons production and their typical, characteristic refusal to clean up their hazardous waste mess in Missouri is all in a day's work for this nuke-loving Empire.

There's a public comment address on the bottom of the second article. Perhaps all of us would like to send our 2 cents on the "wisdom" of saving taxpayer money... while costing these MO people their very lives?

I don't know about those who work in the radiation cover-up industry, but for the rest of us, the lives of those we hold near and dear are worth a bit more than $2 million, wouldn't you say?

As usual, the military can easily find $52.2 Million to produce more radioactive genocidal killing toys in MO... yet they balk at spending a mere $2 million to properly clean up the mess they've created there.

And they will continue to keep on doing this until America collectively rises to its feet and demands otherwise.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me. But our kids, our grand kids, and all their kids on down the line deserve far better than this eternally hazardous, toxic radioactive dump of a nation we are leaving them, don't they?

If you agree, please forward widely. Judging from people I talk to, most Americans simply don't even have a clue as to how widespread and continuous the slow-nuking of America actually is.
