Editor's Notes:This issue comes on the heels of US military deaths in Iraq exceeding the loss of life in the crimes of September 11, 2001. There is no moral justification for this illegal war, or continuing it. In the first item too are similarities on the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City's federal building and the 2001-WTC collapse. Mass. lawmakers to launch hearings

WASHINGTON -- Massachusetts lawmakers are set to launch a blizzard of investigations in the new Congress, probing issues such as wartime contracting, post-Katrina housing assistance, and the Bush administration's relationship with Cuba and other countries in Latin America.
In what could be closely watched proceedings, two members of the Massachusetts delegation -- representatives William D. Delahunt of Quincy and Martin T. Meehan of Lowell -- are planning joint committee hearings to examine the administration's Iraq war policies, particularly the reasons for the military's lagging efforts to train Iraqi troops. Delahunt is in line to become chairman of the House International Relations Committee's subcommittee on oversight and investigations, and Meehan will take over the same subcommittee on the House Armed Services Committee.
Armed with the power to force sworn testimony for the first time after 12 years in the minority in Congress, members of the state's all-Democratic congressional delegation are positioned to play major roles in investigating policies and actions that cut across the federal government and the business community.
"We could be the Bush administration's worst nightmare come to pass, in terms of the questions we'll be able to ask from positions of power," said Representative Edward J. Markey of Malden, the dean of the Massachusetts delegation. "There are a lot of secrets that have been hidden from the American people in terms of the way business has been done for the past six years."
Democrats in general say that when they become the majority party in Congress, they intend to shine a spotlight on administration policies and management, where the Republican power structure has done little to check the authority of the president. With the GOP powerless to stop them, Democrats say, they hope their oversight will protect taxpayer dollars and shape the political agenda going into the 2008 presidential election.
The hearings and investigations planned by Massachusetts' members of Congress will complement and, in some cases, compete with a dizzying array of other investigations Democrats are expected to launch early next year, and Senate committees are expected to be just as active as those in the House.
In addition to Delahunt and Meehan, Massachusetts will have House members in high-ranking posts on several major investigatory committees.
Representative Barney Frank of Newton will become chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, which has sweeping authority over the Treasury Department, the Securities and Exchange Commissions, and the nation's housing policies. Frank has outlined an agenda that includes a year long examination on the issue of wage inequality in the United States.
He is also planning hearings in late January or early February on consumer protections in federal banking laws, as well as the federal government's efforts to rebuild housing destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast.
"A lot of low-income housing was destroyed, and they've done virtually nothing to replace it," Frank said. "The federal government's role in this has been a disaster."
Representative Stephen F. Lynch of South Boston serves on the Government Reform Committee, which will look at the role that industry groups played in shaping the closed-door energy task force convened by Vice President Dick Cheney in 2001. Representative Richard E. Neal of Springfield, a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, wants hearings on the impact of President Bush's tax cuts on the federal budget deficit, given the administration's promise that the tax cuts wouldn't throw the budget out of balance.
The cumulative effect of the ramped-up congressional scrutiny will probably lead Republicans to accuse Democrats of political payback after six years of one-party rule in Washington, said Jeffrey Berry, a political science professor at Tufts University. But after years in which the Bush administration has faced virtually no scrutiny from a Republican-controlled Congress, troves of embarrassing revelations about Republicans during their six years in power seem destined to pour from a Democratic House and Senate, he said.
"The Republicans will claim that the Democrats are obsessed with publicity-oriented witch hunts, but the Republicans are more vulnerable than the Democrats," Berry said. "A lot of these hearings are going to be compelling, and are going to produce storylines that readers and viewers are going to be very interested in."
The Iraq war is likely to be a particularly popular subject of inquiry, with a range of committees set to examine pre war intelligence, troop readiness, and the administration's plans moving forward. Democratic House members say they expect House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi's office to help streamline the various investigations and set a manageable timeline for higher-profile inquiries when the next legislative session begins next month.
In the meantime, Meehan has outlined a full agenda for his Armed Services subcommittee on oversight, which Republicans disbanded in 1995 but which Democrats will reconstitute next year. He is hiring five investigators -- including specialists in weapons systems and Pentagon budgeting -- and promises to look into equipment shortages among soldiers in Iraq, military recruiting and retention, and corruption allegations involving Defense contractors operating in Iraq.
"For the past six years, Congress has rolled over and played dead while the president has done anything he wanted to, particularly in the war in Iraq," Meehan said.
After Republicans made it primarily a mechanism to criticize the United Nations, Delahunt said, he plans to broaden his International Relations subcommittee on oversight. He wants to examine government-funded broadcasts that reach Cuba; the international component of the president's grant programs for faith-based health organizations; and the impact in Latin America of the administration's push to sign "bilateral immunity agreements" to shield US citizens from being prosecuted by the International Criminal Court.
"Does this work to our benefit? We're losing influence in Latin America," Delahunt said.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The U.S. military death toll in Iraq has reached 2,974, one more than the number of deaths in the Sept. 11, 2001,
attacks in the United States, according to an Associated Press count on Tuesday.
The U.S. military announced the deaths of two soldiers in a bomb explosion southwest of Baghdad on Monday.
The deaths raised the number of troops killed to 2,974 since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003.

And trying to get top U.S. officials to talk, those high ranking officials caught with their scummy hands in the trillion dollar cookie jar, is like trying to get a cheating husband to admit he used the mortgage money on a hooker. But what's even more disturbing than watching the guilty parties squirm is that every member of the U.S. Congress, including the so-called friends of the patriot movement, are not even bothering to help the American people recover trillions and nab the criminals when, all of them know all too well, the Wanta story holds the key to the Illuminati's $27.8 trillion dollar financial treasure chest.
Simply put, if they know about the Wanta story, they should do something about it. And if they say they don't know, they are either on the take or should leave Congress for being a blubbering idiot not capable of representing the people in a true and honest fashion. So, in a nutshell, the sad story in America is highlighted extremely well by Wanta's efforts to repatriate $4.5 trillion to revitalize the economy. And as incredible as it sounds it's a rather simple story of how Americans from the very top levels of power to the lower echelon covert idiot-operatives are selling out their country and their people for a piece of the illegal trillion dollar pie uncovered by Ambassador Wanta, a honorable man who refuses to bow down to the likes of the Bush and Clinton crime families.
Before updating the latest in the Wanta trillions, remember every reader and every citizen has one choice when it comes to this story, a story that is true, verifiable and correct beyond normal legal standards of truth. The one choice is as follows: Be a true patriot and help America or be complicit in taking or allowing the criminals to steal trillions from the American people.
Now the latest in the Wanta story from at home and abroad:
Ï Michael C. Cottrell and Ambassador Wanta are pulling out all the stops and going after the full $27.8 trillion after U.S. authorities have not honored a written settlement, fashioned by two federal court judges , to release $4.5 trillion earmarked for the people on behalf of Wanta's AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc. There is no official word on Wanta's course of action to retrieve the money, leaving open all options including a federal law suit. Ï President George W. Bush, Attorney Gen. Alberto Gonzalez, U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr., the entire Federal Reserve Board (controlled by foreign interests), Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Finance committee, and Rep. Michael Oxley of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services are all remaining with their thumbs sucking in their mouths, not saying a word.
Former President George H. Bush and President William Jefferson Clinton are hoping the story goes away quietly as financial documents in Wanta's possession shows clearly they have embezzled billions from the American people, making them eligible for felony charges.
The entire propaganda fortress of the American media, including quasi-alternative sources strategically located in Washington D.C. and elsewhere, are blocking the story with a Nazi-like fascist fist. Todd Leopold, a CNN entertainment producer, the only mainstream member commenting on the story in a widespread email, saying the government said Wanta is not who he says he is and there also exists a lack of trust worthiness involved in the International Currency Review and Arctic Beacon, the two main web sites covering the story. When confronted via telephone, Leopold backed off his comments, indicating he had never researched the story and was basing his opinion on government lies and false misconceptions about the truthfulness of many internet reporters. Further, he was told point blank to have people in the news department contact, the Arctic Beacon but the phones have remained silent perhaps because credible sources near the Wanta trillions have said some of the stolen trillion has actually been funneled to CNN.
Marco Saba, an Italian financial investigator involved with the Organized Crime Observatory (OCO) in Switzerland, knows the validity of the Wanta story and had this to say after hearing Bush is blocking the $4.5 trillion settlement: "I see a link between the Vatican (OPUS DEI) and the strange behaving of BOA. I see the OPUS DEI behind the BOA behavior. Two weeks ago a banker from OPUS DEI, Mr. Roveraro, was found dead - QUARTERED. Do you remember Sindona and Marcinkus? Cantor Fizgerald Employees' Bones Being Dug-Up[EXCERPT]
On 22nd October 2006, CNN reported that bones are being discovered at the World Trade Center site five years after that provocation – immediately ahead of which, a massive volume of gold was trucked out of the WTC basement area. This was a reminder that the London-based firm of Cantor Fitzgerald, which was then headquartered between the 101st and 105th floors of one of the WTC buildings, lost 658 employees on 11th September 2001.

On Thursday, November 30th Lori completed her 11th year of wrongful imprisonment in Peru. It came at a time when the recently elected Peruvian President Alan Garcia is promising to make life tougher for political prisoners. It is also a time that we look forward to a new Congressional composition in the USA that will hopefully improve things on many fronts.

Dear Friends,
My best wishes to you from northern Peru, thanking you for your continued concern and support. Yet another year in jail is coming to a close, and I remember a repeated conversation I've had with my parents over the last two years: What could I recommend that people do to change my situation?
This is such a complex issue that I wouldn't even know where to begin to respond to it. The year 2006 in Peru has been an electoral one. There were two rounds of presidential elections at the beginning of the year and municipal/regional ones at the end. A new government in power began its term calling for the restoration of the death penalty and harshening the legislation for those who protest (particularly the contamination caused by the irresponsible extraction of native resources such as gold, copper, natural gas, etc.). Then the government of Alan Garcia launched a major offensive against the human rights community, seeking to restrict - even more - the functioning of NGOs through a new, controlling law.
The leadership of both subversive armed organizations (the Shining Path and the MRTA) that existed in Peru during the eighties and early nineties were sentenced to very high prison terms; however, the policies of "reconciliation" have been limited to promised "reparations" to certain communities affected by the internal war.
There is such a level of confusion on the issue of political violence in Peru, such continuous misinformation in the media and a momentary political utilization by the government as a "smoke screen" that it is extremely difficult to even fathom how to make a space for other opinions on that topic (even though people do say that a country that is incapable of understanding its past is condemned to repeat it). My case is completely immersed in that pool of confusion and would be difficult to separate from it.
The general trend is the restriction of jail benefits. Prisoners for "terrorism" are having a harder time receiving those benefits now-a-days, and several filed-away cases are now being re-opened.
So, what can be done? We need to work to change the way the world is working, because Peru's problems with its past and present have everything to do with the general globalized horrific mess. We have to stop the war in Iraq, close down Guantanamo, and help countries like Peru to become more just ones - which entails their comprehension of why people rose up against the systems of injustice and not a return to the use of the death penalty.
