Leak Cover-up * 9/11 WhistleBlowers * Sonar Suit

21 October 2005
"In order to rally people, governments need enemies.
They want us to be afraid, to hate, so we will rally behind them.
And if they do not have a real enemy, they will invent one in order to mobilize us."

Editor's Notes:

This issue covers ground in exposing cover-ups that make Iran-Contra look mellow. The turnaround of rapid pulse earth shaking unprecedented news is almost becoming routine, yet human treachery is at the root of causing the biggest problems. Yet the schemers are losing ground in keeping everyone in the dark. I know denial is pretty big these days, but eventually it can only go so far in the late hours of such a charade and madness of planet killing. The Internet has become the best ally to counter the government-media-military complex dis-ease.

In the second item, I wonder, is Barbara Olson a ghost? What times we are living through. Note the good news in item 3: "The US Navy is facing legal action from environmentalists over its use of sonar in routine training.. The Natural Defense Resources Council argues in a federal lawsuit that the sonar can cause injury and death to many marine mammals, and that the Navy is violating environmental law with its sonar use."

The benefit for Flyby News was a success on many levels, especially in the convergence of beautiful music, artists and friends, uniting and supporting Flyby News. Yet the audience numbers was dampened by intense rain storms, and heavy world news, and high fuel prices.. Yet, the venue and publicity generated made the event worthwhile in our long term goals of being a news resource and offering perspective for another seven years. And, as a recent feature about the benefit noted: "(Of course, now and then, wingnuttery becomes revolutionary science.)" Cover-Up Issue Is Seen as Focus in Leak Inquiry
By DAVID JOHNSTON
Published by the NY Times - October 21, 2005

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 - As he weighs whether to bring criminal charges in the C.I.A. leak case, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special counsel, is focusing on whether Karl Rove, the senior White House adviser, and I. Lewis Libby Jr., chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, sought to conceal their actions and mislead prosecutors, lawyers involved in the case said Thursday.

Among the charges that Mr. Fitzgerald is considering are perjury, obstruction of justice and false statement - counts that suggest the prosecutor may believe the evidence presented in a 22-month grand jury inquiry shows that the two White House aides sought to cover up their actions, the lawyers said.

Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby have been advised that they may be in serious legal jeopardy, the lawyers said, but only this week has Mr. Fitzgerald begun to narrow the possible charges. The prosecutor has said he will not make up his mind about any charges until next week, government officials say.

With the term of the grand jury expiring in one week, though, some lawyers in the case said they were persuaded that Mr. Fitzgerald had all but made up his mind to seek indictments. None of the lawyers would speak on the record, citing the prosecutor's requests not to talk about the case.

Associates of Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby continued to express hope that the prosecutor would conclude that the evidence was too fragmentary and that it would be difficult to prove Mr. Rove or Mr. Libby had a clear-cut intention to misinform the grand jury. Lawyers for the two men declined to comment on their legal status.

The case has cast a cloud over the White House, as has the Congressional criticism over the Supreme Court nomination of Harriet E. Miers. On Thursday, responding to a reporter's question, Mr. Bush said: "There's some background noise here, a lot of chatter, a lot of speculation and opining. But the American people expect me to do my job, and I'm going to."

The possible violations under consideration by Mr. Fitzgerald are peripheral to the issue he was appointed in December 2003 to investigate: whether anyone in the administration broke a federal law that makes it a crime, under certain circumstances, to reveal the identity of a covert intelligence officer.

But Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby may not be the only people at risk. There may be others in the government who could be charged for violations of the disclosure law or of other statutes, like the espionage act, which makes it a crime to transmit classified information to people not authorized to receive it.

It is still not publicly known who first told the columnist Robert D. Novak the identity of the C.I.A. officer, Valerie Wilson. Mr. Novak identified her in a column on July 14, 2003, using her maiden name, Valerie Plame. Mr. Fitzgerald knows the identity of this source, a person who is not believed to work at the White House, the lawyers said.

The CIA leak case isn't just about whether top officials will be indicted. A larger issue is what Judith Miller's evidence says about White House manipulation of the media

By Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball

The lengthy account by New York Times reporter Judy Miller about her grand jury testimony in the CIA leak case inadvertently provides a revealing window into how the Bush administration manipulated journalists about intelligence on Iraq's nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

- - Cheney 'Cabal' hijacked foreign policy
By Edward Alden in Washington

Vice-President Dick Cheney and a handful of others had hijacked the government's foreign policy apparatus, deciding in secret to carry out policies that had left the US weaker and more isolated in the world, the top aide to former Secretary of State Colin Powell claimed on Wednesday.

Attack Syria? Invade Iran?: What Gives Them the (Constitutional) Right?
By JEREMY BRECHER and BRENDAN SMITH

We've been here before. President Bush used trumped-up fears (like mushroom clouds over American cities) and frauds (like imaginary "yellowcake" uranium) to fool the American people into attacking Iraq. Now we and the Iraqi people are paying the price.

The Big Wedding: 9/11, the Whistle-Blowers and the Cover-Up

The term "conspiracy theory," with the image it invokes of a cabal of black-hearted men who convene on a regular basis to consolidate their power, reduces alternate history to a cartoon. By using it to discredit, however, journalists only reveal how inadequate their inability to untangle webs the powerful weave makes them feel.

One who's undaunted by the degree of difficulty is Sander Hicks, who endeavors to shed new light on events leading up to 9/11 mostly through meetings with, if not remarkable men, remarkable maniacs. In fact, his book, The Big Wedding, named after Al Qaeda code for 9/11, could just as easily be called "My Adventures Covering the Terror Beat."

The first portrait in his rogues' gallery is Randy Glass, an informant for an ATF/FBI terrorist sting. Pre-9/11, he dined out in Manhattan with a Pakistani arms dealer, who, gesturing toward the World Trade Center, exclaimed, "Those towers are coming down."

"The 9/11 Commission Report," Hicks concludes, "has topped the Warren Report...as the greatest cover-up of all time."

A State Department official told Glass they were aware of bin Laden's plans. But to keep Pakistani President Musharraf and his nuclear arsenal in their corner, they were banking on his guarantee that he could stop the attack. After all, as Hicks maintains, where Al Qaeda ends, Pakistan's ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) begins.

..After 9/11, Congress established the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund and appointed Kenneth Feinberg its special master. One of the few who opted out of the fund was 9/11 widow Ellen Mariani, who, instead, sued the entire administration.

For a story on her, Hicks conducted an interview with Feinberg that turned ugly. Perhaps, he thinks, there might be some truth to Mariani's claim that Feinberg's role was "to ensure all 9/11 families joined the fund to prevent any questions of....negligence on the part of [the] administration."

After then taking on Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff, he dissects the 9/11 Commission report. First he skewers each member of the panel, and then he details how the Commission either gave short shrift to 9/11's central questions or outright lied. For instance, the mujahadeens in Afghanistan "received little or no assistance from the United States."

Regarding one of the central questions of 9/11--how the terrorists knew to strike on the morning that NORAD, NEADS, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff were preoccupied with three different air defense drills--the Commission mentions only one of these exercises as an afterthought. "The 9/11 Commission Report," Hicks concludes, "has topped the Warren Report...as the greatest cover-up of all time."

As The Big Wedding nears its conclusion, Hicks shares his feelings about the 9/11 Truth Movement. Its tendency to become bogged down on issues like what struck the Pentagon, he posits, explains how "the term 'conspiracy theories' came to be shorthand for 'discredited whacko' in the invisible guidebook of mainstream media."

Meanwhile, he maintains, the idea that "terrorists with box cutters were able to defeat a $400 billion-a-year war machine" is as "kooky" a theory as any. Ending on a hopeful note, however, he calls for a whistle-blowers' conference.

In The Big Wedding, Sander Hicks has not only told some rollicking tales, but gone a long way to sorting out 9/11 alternate history. If more clear-eyed reporters like him pitched in, independent investigations into 9/11 would no longer be tarred with the conspiracy theory brush.

- - Peak Oil is a Corrupt Globalist Scam
by Steve Watson, Alex Jones & Paul Watson
October 04 2005

[EXCERPT]

They make the profits on creating artificial scarcity.

"Peak oil" is pure military-industrial-complex propaganda.

Publicly available CFR and Club of Rome strategy manuals from 30 years ago say that a global government needs to control the world population through neo-feudalism by creating artificial scarcity. Now that the social architects have de-industrialized the United States, they are going to blame our economic disintegration on lack of energy supplies.

Globalization is all about consolidation. Now that the world economy has become so centralized through the Globalists operations, they are going to continue to consolidate and blame it on the West's "evil" over-consumption of fossil fuels, while at the same time blocking the development and integration of renewable clean technologies.

In other words, Peak oil is a scam to create artificial scarcity and drive prices up. Meanwhile, alternative fuel technologies which have been around for decades are intentionally suppressed.

Peak oil is just another weapon the globalists have in their arsenal to move towards a new world order where the elite get richer and everyone else falls into line.

3) US Navy sued over dolphin-stranding sonar!

US Navy sued over dolphin-stranding sonar
By Lucy Sherriff (lucy.sherriff at theregister.co.uk)
Published Thursday 20th October 2005 16:05 GMT

The US Navy is facing legal action from environmentalists over its use of sonar in routine training, according to reports. The Natural Defense Resources Council (NRDC) argues in a federal lawsuit that the sonar can cause injury and death to many marine mammals, and that the Navy is violating environmental law with its sonar use.

The NRDC says that mid-frequency sonar is behind mass strandings of whales and dolphins, and can cause internal bleeding in these mammals, Reuters reports. It also accuses the Navy of failing to take proper precautions to prevent injuring these animals.

The Navy, while not commenting specifically on the lawsuit, says its sonar use is critical to national defence, and is a vital part of its training programme. It added that it employs "scientifically-based protective measures" as part of a "comprehensive strategy for assessing the potential effects of its use of mid-range active sonar on marine mammals".

But the coalition of environmental groups would like the Navy to be more judicious in its use of the technology. In the suit, it asks the court to force the Navy to avoid migration routes, and to gradually increase the volume of radar, which it says would give animals in the area time to swim away.

"Military sonar needlessly threatens whole populations of whales and other marine animals," NRDC lawyer Joel Reynolds told Reuters. "In violation of our environmental laws, the Navy refuses to take basic precautions that could spare these majestic creatures. Now we're asking the courts to enforce those laws."
