BushManDate * KERRY WON * IcelandMelting

06 November 2004
"Seven counties in Ohio have electronic voting machines
and none of them have paper trails. That alone raises issues
of accuracy and integrity as to how we can verify the count.
A recount without a paper trail is meaningless; you just get
a regurgitation of the data. Last year, Blackwell tried to
get the entire state to buy new machines without a paper trail.
The exit polls, virtually the only check we have against
tampering with a vote without a paper trail, had shown Kerry
with a lead. ... A poll worker told me this morning that there
were no tapes of the results posted on some machines;
on other machines the posted count was zero,
which obviously shouldn't be the case."

Editor's Notes:

Is suspicions of electronic voting fraud a lot to swallow? It can't be more incredible than having an unauditable voting system, and with that in place, fraud is not farfetched at all, but likely. So what to do? Number uno.. keep the faith, keep communicating, networking, challenging the media for democracy and to stop the carnage from spreading further in Falluja and other places. Go to Black Box Voting and learn how to help demand a real election, a real democracy. The only way to honor those harmed by a renegade US dictatorial government is to fight for truth. The truth is likely that the majority of Americans and the electoral college voted for John Kerry for US President. Bush is now on a high speed chase for Armageddon, and millions have been duped by an unscrupulous group of extreme right wing neocons. Now Bush wants to revamp the intelligence community, and the Secret Government.. As Thom Hartmann put it in his title on the case of voting-fraud-2004: "The Ultimate Felony Against Democracy."

"..exit polls that showed Kerry carrying Florida and Ohio
(among other states) weren't erroneous at all -
it was the numbers produced by paperless voting machines
that were wrong, and Kerry actually won."

– Thom Hartmann

Item 3 updates the issue on the volcano eruption under a glacier in Iceland. The Gulf Stream current is noted as a fluke of nature.. How this pumping rotation of currents got started is beyond science's ability to comprehend, which brings heat to the equator and coolness to the poles, but the forces now at work are destroying it. How empty their lives are becoming, and we each affect all of us, now realized more than ever..

"The volcano was maintained under pressure by the weight of a lake above it.
As the lake drained, this pressure was released, allowing magma to rise to the surface."

Kerry Won...
Greg Palast
November 04, 2004
Excerpted from

---Kerry won. Here are the facts.---

I know you don't want to hear it. You can't face one more hung chad. But I don't have a choice. As a journalist examining that messy sausage called American democracy, it's my job to tell you who got the most votes in the deciding states. Tuesday, in Ohio and New Mexico, it was John Kerry.

Most voters in Ohio thought they were voting for Kerry. CNN's exit poll showed Kerry beating Bush among Ohio women by 53 percent to 47 percent. Kerry also defeated Bush among Ohio's male voters 51 percent to 49 percent. Unless a third gender voted in Ohio, Kerry took the state.

So what's going on here? Answer: the exit polls are accurate.

Pollsters ask, "Who did you vote for?" Unfortunately, they don't ask the crucial, question, "Was your vote counted?" The voters don't know.

Here's why. Although the exit polls show that most voters in Ohio punched cards for Kerry-Edwards, thousands of these votes were simply not recorded. This was predictable and it was predicted. [See, "An Election Spoiled Rotten," November 1.]

---Whose Votes Are Discarded?---

And not all votes spoil equally. Most of those votes, say every official report, come from African-American and minority precincts. (To learn more see link from article.)

We saw this in Florida in 2000. Exit polls showed Gore with a plurality of at least 50,000, but it didn't match the official count. That's because the official, Secretary of State Katherine Harris, excluded 179,855 spoiled votes. In Florida, as in Ohio, most of these votes lost were cast on punch cards where the hole wasn't punched through completely-leaving a 'hanging chad,'-or was punched extra times. Whose cards were discarded? Expert statisticians investigating spoilage for the government calculated that 54 percent of the ballots thrown in the dumpster were cast by black folks. (To read the report from the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, see article link .)

And here's the key: Florida is terribly typical. The majority of ballots thrown out (there will be nearly 2 million tossed out from Tuesday's election) will have been cast by African American and other minority citizens.

---The Impact Of Challenges---

First and foremost, Kerry was had by chads. But the Democrat wasn't punched out by punch cards alone. There were also the 'challenges.' That's a polite word for the Republican Party of Ohio's use of an old Ku Klux Klan technique: the attempt to block thousands of voters of color at the polls. In Ohio, Wisconsin and Florida, the GOP laid plans for poll workers to ambush citizens under arcane laws-almost never used-allowing party-designated poll watchers to finger individual voters and demand they be denied a ballot. The Ohio courts were horrified and federal law prohibits targeting of voters where race is a factor in the challenge. But our Supreme Court was prepared to let Republicans stand in the voting booth door.

---Enchanted State's Enchanted Vote---

Now, on to New Mexico, where a Kerry plurality-if all votes are counted-is more obvious still. Before the election, in, I wrote, "John Kerry is down by several thousand votes in New Mexico, though not one ballot has yet been counted."

How did that happen? It's the spoilage, stupid; and the provisional ballots.

CNN said George Bush took New Mexico by 11,620 votes. Again, the network total added up to that miraculous, and non-existent, '100 percent' of ballots cast.

New Mexico reported in the last race a spoilage rate of 2.68 percent, votes lost almost entirely in Hispanic, Native American and poor precincts-Democratic turf. From Tuesday's vote, assuming the same ballot-loss rate, we can expect to see 18,000 ballots in the spoilage bin.

Spoilage has a very Democratic look in New Mexico. Hispanic voters in the Enchanted State, who voted more than two to one for Kerry, are five times as likely to have their vote spoil as a white voter. Counting these uncounted votes would easily overtake the Bush 'plurality.'

The Ultimate Felony Against Democracy
by Thom Hartmann

The hot story in the Blogosphere is that the "erroneous" exit polls that showed Kerry carrying Florida and Ohio (among other states) weren't erroneous at all - it was the numbers produced by paperless voting machines that were wrong, and Kerry actually won. As more and more analysis is done of what may (or may not) be the most massive election fraud in the history of the world, however, it's critical that we keep the largest issue at the forefront at all time: Why are We The People allowing private, for-profit corporations, answerable only to their officers and boards of directors, and loyal only to agendas and politicians that will enhance their profitability, to handle our votes?

Maybe Florida went for Kerry, maybe for Bush. Over time - and through the efforts of some very motivated investigative reporters - we may well find out (Bev Harris of just filed what may be the largest Freedom of Information Act [FOIA} filing in history), and bloggers and investigative reporters are discovering an odd discrepancy in exit polls being largely accurate in paper-ballot states and oddly inaccurate in touch-screen electronic voting states Even raw voter analyses are showing extreme oddities in touch-screen-run Florida, and eagle-eyed bloggers are finding that news organizations are retroactively altering their exit polls to coincide with what the machines ultimately said.

But in all the discussion about voting machines, let's never forget the concept of the commons, because this usurpation is the ultimate felony committed by conservatives this year.

At the founding of this nation, we decided that there were important places to invest our tax (then tariff) dollars, and those were the things that had to do with the overall "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" of all of us. Over time, these commons - in which we all make tax investments and for which we all hold ultimate responsibility - have come to include our police and fire services; our military and defense; our roads and skyways; our air, waters and national parks; and the safety of our food and drugs.

But the most important of all the commons in which we've invested our hard-earned tax dollars is our government itself. It's owned by us, run by us (through our elected representatives), answerable to us, and most directly responsible for stewardship of our commons.

And the commons through which we regulate the commons of our government is our vote.

About two years ago, I wrote a story for these pages, "If You Want To Win An Election, Just Control The Voting Machines," that exposed how Senator Chuck Hagel had, before stepping down and running for the U.S. Senate in Nebraska, been the head of the voting machine company (now ES&S) that had just computerized Nebraska's vote. The Washington Post (1/13/1997) said Hagel's "Senate victory against an incumbent Democratic governor was the major Republican upset in the November election." According to Bev Harris, Hagel won virtually every demographic group, including many largely black communities that had never before voted Republican. Hagel was the first Republican in 24 years to win a Senate seat in Nebraska, nearly all on unauditable machines he had just sold the state. And in all probability, Hagel run for President in 2008.

In another, later article I wrote at the request of and which they mailed to their millions of members, I noted that in Georgia - another state that went all-electronic - "USA Today reported on Nov. 3, 2002, 'In Georgia, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll shows Democratic Sen. Max Cleland with a 49%-to-44% lead over Republican Rep. Saxby Chambliss. 'Cox News Service, based in Atlanta, reported just after the election (Nov. 7) that, "Pollsters may have goofed" because 'Republican Rep. Saxby Chambliss defeated incumbent Democratic Sen. Max Cleland by a margin of 53 to 46 percent. The Hotline, a political news service, recalled a series of polls Wednesday showing that Chambliss had been ahead in none of them.'" Nearly every vote in the state was on an electronic machine with no audit trail.

Nader/Camejo Challenge Electronic Voting Results in New Hampshire

Washington, DC: The Nader/Camejo campaign has filed a challenge to the
voting results in New Hampshire after receiving numerous complaints from voting rights activits. Below is Nader's letter to New Hampshire requesting a recount. Also, below is Nader's view on electronic voting without a paper trial. In addition, the Nader/Camejo campaign offered our campaign to poll watchers who wanted to be credentialed to be inside to monitor electronic voting. Hundreds of democracy activists in Maryland working with were credentialed to monitor polling through the Populist Party which was created by Nader-Camejo supporters in Maryland.

Press Release : Presidential Election Was Hacked By Florida Tech School
Election Fraud Connected To Katherine Harris' Attorney

Contact: Jeff Fisher 561-865-9548

Bay Point School is a juvenile correctional facility in the Miami area. Information has been given to the Washington Post that the Miami school is a suspected training ground in computer science and programming for juvenile delinquents who have trained in the art of manipulating electronic voting, without a true audit trail. It is believed that this activity is taking place not only there but in several schools like the aforementioned one nationwide. If true, then Bay Point School could be the Florida connection." It is possible as many as 6 states elections results have been altered by recruits from this school.

Jeff Fisher through a confidential informant alleges that the school has direct connections with Joseph Klock, and that Blass informed him that his loyalty to Klock is more important than the truth about how the 2000 election was manipulated, and how it is possible for a repeat to occur in the upcoming November general election. Mel Sembler, a powerful fundraiser for the Bush Campaign in Florida, is someone who has knowledge of the activities at Bay Point College. We are sure the talented people of the Washington Post will release additional details in the upcoming days. Mel Sembler is Ambassador to Italy and a principal in several drug treatment facilities that are under investigation for gross mismanagement.

Joseph Klock, an attorney who facilitated the release of Dr. Blass' son from an abusive treatment center. Mr. Klock was, coincidentally, the attorney for former congresswoman Katherine Harris who was the Secretary of State during the contested 2000 Florida recount which helped put George W. Bush in the White House.

Details about this on going investigation can be had by contacting Mr. Fisher.

We have reported previously on protests of Ambassador Melvin Sembler by the Uhurus and by the anti-Straight crowd. More recently BayWalk, Sembler's multi-million dollar shopping center complex in St. Petersburg, has been protested by StPeteforPeace, a group that feels the war in Iraq is illegal. What BayWalk came up with was an attempt to create a no protest zone to stop them. That plan backfired when the biggest protest ever took place at BayWalk recently, hampering businesses. StPeteforPeace was joined by the ACLU, the Green Party, the Uhurus, Coalition for Free Thought in Media, and many others, including two members of the city council. Even the St. Pete Times editorialized over Sembler's attempt to limit free-speech. The city council buckled under the pressure and dropped its hearing to create the illegal zones.

Speak Out Against the Imminent Assault on Falluja!
* contact your local media outlets to denounce the planned attack
* get ready for street protests should the full-scale assault begin

Does the Bush administration plan to destroy Falluja in order to save it?

News reports indicate that the Bush administration will soon launch a major military assault on Falluja. More than 10,000 U.S. soldiers are amassing on Fallujah's outskirts, and U.S. warplanes are already bombing neighborhoods around the city.

If the U.S. carries out this assault, it will dramatically increase violence and chaos in Iraq. It will not bring about the peace and security that Iraqis greatly desire. The military occupation has already fueled anger and resentment against the U.S. and swelled the ranks of terrorist groups. We need to bring the troops home now and adopt a new approach that will move us toward peace, sovereignty, and security.

Military officials believe Falluja is the home of the nation-wide insurgency. Their goal in this assault is to induce other insurgent-held cities to capitulate before scheduled elections in January, and send a message to all Iraqis that opposition to the occupation has a high price.

U.S. officials and U.S.-installed Prime Minister Allawi say their only goal is "to liberate the people and to bring the rule of law to Falluja." But when the U.S. military besieged Falluja last April, at least 600 Iraqis were killed, most of them civilians. Given the scale of the threatened assault, far more Iraqi civilians could be killed this time around, as well as many U.S. and Iraqi soldiers.

We will be sending you more information, resources, and calls to action should Falluja in fact suffer a major attack. But in the meantime, we urge you to begin raising a loud public outcry against the Bush administration's planned assault.

Flood your local media outlets with messages of opposition to the impending assault on Falluja. Write letters to the editor and send in opinion pieces. Call in to your local talk radio stations. Ask reporters if they would like to interview an anti-war activist.

If the assault on Falluja or any other major military escalation takes place in Iraq, we will need to be as visible and vocal as possible with our antiwar message. Make sure your group or organization is aware of what's happening; start planning local protest activities and post them on our calendar

U.N.'s Annan Seeks to Prevent an Assault on Fallouja
His letter to U.S., British and Iraqi leaders
warns of increasing hostility and election boycott.

by Maggie Farley

UNITED NATIONS — U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has warned leaders of the United States, Britain and Iraq that another full-scale assault on the rebel-held city of Fallouja would further alienate Iraqis and disrupt elections planned for January.

Annan's warning, contained in a letter sent Sunday, has angered some officials here.

A wounded Iraqi woman lies in a hospital bed next to her 16 month-old child who lost a leg when their house was hit during a U.S. overnight air-raid conducted over the western city of Falluja, November 4, 2004, according to Iraqi hospital officials. REUTERS/Omar Khodor

"This is an issue for the government of Iraq," said British Ambassador Emyr Jones Parry. "It's easy for those not in Iraq to underestimate the overwhelming concern the Iraqis have for security. There cannot be an area as big as Fallouja which is allowed to be a base for terrorism."

Some diplomats said Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi was "furious" when he received the letter. Iraq's new U.N. ambassador immediately sought to meet with Annan to argue that the U.N. was interfering. Allawi recently criticized Annan for not doing enough to help Iraq prepare for elections. The world body's officials say Iraq is not secure enough for more U.N. workers to help organize the nationwide vote.

Annan's letter underscores a fundamental disagreement between the U.S.-led coalition and the U.N. about how best to bring stability to Iraq.

Awesome power of Iceland volcano

Published by the BBC

A spectacular volcanic eruption under
an Iceland glacier has forced airlines
to divert flights to avoid flying through
gas emissions from the blast.

The volcano first erupted on Monday, sending thick black smoke and ash
heading towards continental Europe.

Since then, GrÝmsv÷tn volcano has produced a steady stream of ash and lava, with explosions sending ash up to 12,000m (40,000 feet) in the air.

It is thought to have been caused by drainage of a lake under the glacier.

"As the lake drained, this pressure was released,
allowing magma to rise to the surface.
It was like lifting the lid off a pressure cooker,"

- Dr Matthew J Roberts, Icelandic Meteorological Office

Officials say people or homes are not at risk from the eruption of GrÝmsv÷tn, which is in an unpopulated area of the island.

But ash from the eruption under Vatnaj÷kull glacier - Iceland's biggest - has landed in Norway, Sweden and Finland. The eruption was also violent enough to set off earth tremors.

The ashfall in Iceland has caused some problems for wildlife in the area. For instance, farmers have brought their sheep inside to prevent them from grazing on land covered with shards of abrasive "glass-like" material deposited by the eruption.

Oli Thor Arnarsson of the Icelandic Meteorological Office said a change in the wind could send the cloud toward central Europe.

"We are speculating that the eruption should be clear tomorrow. But if there are more eruptions, we may have ash over central Europe," he said.

Cancelled flights

Trans-Atlantic flights had been diverted south of Iceland to avoid the ash cloud, and domestic flights to the northeast of Iceland were cancelled.

Dutch airline KLM said it had cancelled 59 flights, stranding hundreds of passengers at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, because of the cloud of ash hanging above Europe.

"Because of company rules we can't fly below it and we can't fly above it," said airport spokesman Frank Houben.

In addition to visibility problems, abrasive particles released into the air by the volcano can get inside aircraft engines.

"It's the equivalent of sandblasting an aircraft engine with grit," Dr Matthew J Roberts of the Icelandic Meteorological Office in Reykjavik, Iceland, told the BBC News website.

"As the aeroplane draws in large quantities of air, suspended particles cause abrasion inside the engine that can result in the aircraft stalling."

This happened once in 1989, when a 747 flew through an ash cloud from an eruption of the Redoubt volcano in Alaska, US. The engines stopped, causing the plane to lose several hundred feet in altitude.

Luckily, the pilots managed to restart the engines after several attempts, averting a catastrophe.

Warning issued

Over the last few weeks, increased earthquake activity below the Vatnaj÷kull ice cap warned scientists that an eruption was likely.

At 2010 GMT on Monday evening, scientists detected a series of earthquakes from the GrÝmsv÷tn volcano beneath Vatnaj÷kull, prompting monitors to issue a public warning.

The earthquakes were followed at 2150 GMT by a sequence of volcanic tremors that confirmed an eruption was underway. Shortly after, doppler radar detected the first volcanic plume breaking through the ice.

"The volcano was maintained under pressure by the weight of a lake above it. As the lake drained, this pressure was released, allowing magma to rise to the surface," Dr Roberts explained.

"It was like lifting the lid off a pressure cooker."
GrÝmsv÷tn last erupted six years ago and before that in 1995 and 1993, causing flooding.

The volcano lies on the Atlantic Rift, the meeting of the Euro and American continental plates.

The three major volcanoes of Iceland - Hekla, Katla and GrÝmsv÷tn - lie on the same fault line.

During the late 18th century, continuous volcanic eruptions in Iceland heavily damaged a quarter of the island nation, and blotted out the sun's light for several years.
